About GAVS

Preserving the Italian aviation heritage since 1983.

In the past century, Italy built some 30,000 aircraft. Of these, only about one hundred significant aircraft survive. Some are in danger. Too many, including those which took part in many great flights, exist only as photographs or fading memories.
To preserve the material evidence of a heritage of deeds, progress and sacrifice, in 1983 eight enthusiasts founded the Group of Friend of Historic Aircraft. Today, we have hundreds of members and four active chapters in Rome, Turin, Milan and Vicenza. We work with the Italian Air Force, Italian and foreign museums, industry.
Through the volunteer work of our members, we have saved rare aircraft (like the last Nardi FN.305), resurrected extinct fighters (like the Fiat G.55), brought about amazing recoveries (including two Siai S.79 from Lebanon) and restored aircraft to flying condition (like the PR.2 Saltafossi).
Through our journal Ali Antiche and this website, we have patiently raised the awareness of the cultural value of historic aircraft. With your help, we can reach even greater results.
