socio Giancarlo Zanardo. |

| The PR.2 Saltafossi ("Ditch-hopper"),
a pioneering single-seat ultralight designed by Ermenegildo Preti in 1946,
will soon become the first vintage aircraft returned to airworthiness by GAVS. The restoration - launched a decade ago by the GAVS Lombardy chapter is being completed in Conegliano by member Giancarlo Zanardo. In May, during the GAVS general meeting held in Vicenza, the Chapter announced it had accepted Zanardo's offer to complete the project which had been stopped by the sudden loss of the Milan workshop. The small aircraft, built at the Milan Polytechnic by Angelo Cabrilla, was delivered to Conegliano in July and has since completed a quick overhaul, The engine, an 850 cc DAF replacing the ultrarare original AerMacchi MB.2, arrived earlier this month and should be making its first test runs soon. Shortly thereafter, the PR.2 will make its first post-restoration flight - which could actually be its first flight ever, because confirmation of its 1946 flight has proved very elusive. Any information would be gratefully accepted. Stay tuned on www.gavs.it for further updates on the Ditch-hopper's progress. photo: (c) Francesco Ballista, 2002 |
